P3 Parent Spotlight: Felicia Jordan-Chaney

felicia

What is your name?   Felicia Jordan-Chaney

If you had a super hero who would it be? I would have to say the invisible man, because he could be everywhere and nowhere at the same time.

What are your hobbies?

Some of my favorite things to do are shopping, traveling to new places, listening to music, reading, spending time with family and cooking.

What are your goals for P3?

My goals for P3 are to learn as much as I can about the 4 tracks because I think it’s important when dealing with everyday life, these issues run deep throughout my family and every family I know and as a mom of 5, P3 has enlightened me on many things and I’m encouraged to continue learning and sharing as much information with the group as well.

What challenges do you think most caregivers face in our community?

The biggest challenges I see and have personally experienced are just not being informed on where to turn when you are facing challenges and crisis.

Submit a bio of yourself?

Felicia Jordan-Chaney was born and raised in Champaign, Illinois and is the proud mother of five beautiful children, and wife of Thomas Chaney. In 2000 she took her love for children and began a career as a childcare provider. In 2012, Felicia became actively involved with Access Initiative as a Family Advisory Board member and C- chair to the Coordinating Council, and currently does the Juvenile Justice Track. Her motto is “Turn your wounds into wisdom” which has inspired her to continue her education in pursuit of becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor.

What are some of your family’s values?

Respect, honesty and forgiveness.

What is your family background, beliefs and ethnicity/heritage?

I came from the backs of strong African American men and women who valued every day they lived because they watched their parents come from slavery. I was taught to be self- sufficient and to stand up for what I believe in.

Is there anything you’d like to share about yourself or your family?

I would like to leave a legacy that my children, grandchildren and great grandchildren will be very proud of.
